Mission Statement

The mission of Waldensian Presbyterian Church is to glorify God by following Jesus Christ and making Him known to others.

In order to do this, we believe that: 1) Our greatest purpose in life is to glorify and enjoy God;  2) It is crucial that we both know and live by Biblical teaching & principles;  3) As Christians we are not only called to Jesus Christ, but also to one another, and therefore take each person's gifts, talents, interests and needs seriously; and,  4) We are part of a much bigger thing God is doing to reach people close to Monett and throughout the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

A Brief History of the Waldensians of Barry County (in three slides)

Humble beginnings in the 12th Century

In the late 12th century, in the city of Lyons, France, a rich merchant named Peter Valdus (English translation, Waldo) went through a spiritual awakening.  Upon witnessing the death of a friend, Waldo was seized with fear as he began to think of his own death someday.  He sought with new zeal, the salvation of his soul and found by the grace of God that the Word of God is the source of the Christian faith.  Waldo was convicted that he should leave his life of wealth and ease, took a vow of poverty, and gave all his earthly belongings to the poor.  He also began sharing the good news of Jesus Christ freely in the streets of the city.  He soon attracted followers, and the growing sect of believers became known as the Poor Men of Lyons.
ABOUT

ABOUT US

Since 2016, Waldensian Presbyterian Church has been a member church in the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, or ECO, denomination. Our beliefs and practice are rooted in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. We are more traditional and liturgical in our worship, and more given to relationships than programs. Our regular schedule of activities includes a prayer meeting on Wednesday evening, a women’s study on Tuesday afternoons, a church breakfast the first Saturday of each month, Sunday School and Worship on Sunday mornings, as well as other occasions of gathering for fellowship and, usually, something to eat. We enjoy fellowship with one another, and are glad to have others join us.
